Detailed Points

“ After school, Rosa (The main character in the story) walked home slowly. She was alone in the room. Rosa lay on her bed, staring at the texture of the ceiling. She looked down at the surging Meguro River through the enormous windows in a daze. The limpid river was glowing with a golden halo, and several tall glass buildings were erected on the opposite bank, shining like diamonds under the sunlight. The winter days are always short, and twilight comes quickly. Rosa sat at the desk and wrote down her feelings in her diary: 'It seems that I’m sick, and will she be the antidote or the poison.' (A Hiding Of The Joyous Period From An Unexpected Experience, Pg.91)”

Picture
- During painting, transparent glass pigment was used to draw the glass, to highlight the glass is beautiful but fragile.
- The trees beside the building are all dead branches, representing my heart is heavy at that time. The river was very calm and without waves. Everything in the city is worth thinking about. Although it looks beautiful on the outside, it is not necessarily look like that on the inside.

Mood: Still

The whole picture gives people a still feeling. In the picture, the tall buildings, a bunch of dead branches, and a river all seem to be still. In the novel, Rosa's life seemed to be the same every day before she met Hermione (Rosa’s special friend in the book). Therefore, there are dead branches, trees with no leaves, and river sparkles but there are no ripples. Everything is still, just like Rosa’s life.
